You may have noticed that when you start ScribeCount each day, some platforms have logged out, while others remain logged in.

Why does this happen?

ScribeCount was initially made with two main priorities: first, to help you collect your data quickly and easily; and, second, to keep the control of your data in your hands. That second one is deeply important, and it has informed just how ScribeCount is built. In essence, ScribeCount waits for you to unlock and open a door to each portal, and then it looks through the door. However, you don't give it a key, and it can't open the door on its own.

Unlike other sales aggregators, ScribeCount doesn't retain cookies or other login information. It can only access information when you are on a browser with the extension installed, when the tab is open, and when each platform is logged in. So, when the platforms log you out according to their security protocols (i.e., they close the door from their side), ScribeCount is also closed out.

Of the current platforms (this is mid-June 2021), Apple has the most stringent protocols. Other platforms will log you out at intervals that take into account your privacy settings there, and your browser settings.

What is the long-term plan for this?

You've given feedback, and we have listened: security is awesome, but a lot of users really do not like needing to log into each platform each day. We're working on a way to allow people to opt into a setting that would maintain connections with each platform, while allowing other users to stay as private as they would like. We do not have a specific ETA for this change right now, but will keep you all updated.
